What does this mean for your business?

First you need to register your business with Dansk Producentansvar, so that the authorities know that you are covered by the rules. After that, you must continuously report how much and what type of packaging you use so that waste management is in control. Finally, you have to pay a fee, which goes towards recycling and disposing of the packaging, so that together we can take care of the environment.

What is manufacturer responsibility for packaging?
Producer responsibility for packaging implies that manufacturers and importers are legally, financially and operationally responsible for handling the packaging they make available when it becomes waste. This follows the principle that the polluter pays.
Do I need to report how much I have sold?
No, you must report everything you have made available (imported) - including what is in your inventory.
Are small businesses also covered by producer responsibility?
Yes, all companies, regardless of size, are covered by producer responsibility if they make packaging available on the Danish market.
Who is covered by producer responsibility for packaging?
Producer responsibility applies to all companies that produce, import or sell packaged products in Denmark. This includes:

‍Importers: Companies that import products with packaging from abroad to the Danish market.

‍Sellers: Companies that sell packaged products directly to consumers or other businesses.
