What are batteries?

Batteries include all types of chemical energy sources that can store and deliver electrical energy, as well as products that contain batteries. The new rules apply to everything from small household batteries to large industrial batteries and electric car batteries.
Portable batteries (e.g. AA/AAA, button cell batteries)
Batteries for light transport (e.g. electric bicycles, electric scooters)
Industrial batteries (e.g. emergency power batteries)
Electric vehicle batteries for electric and hybrid cars

Who is covered by the battery manufacturer responsibility?

Companies that make batteries or products with batteries available on the Danish market for the first time are covered by producer responsibility. This applies to Danish manufacturers, importers, distributors, private label owners and foreign distance selling companies.

Producers

Companies that manufacture or obtain production of batteries and put them on the Danish market have producer responsibility.

Importers

Companies that import batteries or products with batteries into Denmark are considered manufacturers.

Remote sales companies

Companies outside Denmark that sell batteries or products with batteries directly to Danish consumers also have responsibilities as manufacturers.

How to comply with the rules for batteries

From 18 August 2025, companies that put batteries on the Danish market will have to meet a number of new requirements. With Packaging Reporting as a partner, we help you comply safely and effectively.
