Gear types
Fishing gear containing plastic comes in many forms. For reporting it is split in two: commercial fishing gear and other fishing gear. The types below are the easiest way to work out what you have, and which of the two groups it belongs to.
Gear that contains plastic
Nets, traps, lines and buoys. What they have in common is the plastic, and that is what producer responsibility is about.
Below you can see the types and what they cover. If you are unsure which gear is covered, just ask us. It is quickly sorted out.
The boat sets the net, the buoy marks it, and the trap sits on the bottom with a line up. It is the plastic in the gear that triggers the responsibility.
| Type | What it covers |
|---|---|
| Nets | Gillnets, trawls and nets with plastic fibres. |
| Traps and pots | Traps and cages for fish, crabs and shellfish. |
| Lines and ropes | Lines, twine, rope and cordage made of plastic. |
| Buoys and floats | Marker buoys and flotation elements made of plastic. |
