If you make single-use plastic products available on the market in Denmark, you have to help cover clean-up, collection and public information. This is called producer responsibility for single-use plastic (SUP).

What you must comply with for Single-use plastic
Producer responsibility covers many different obligations. We have gathered the nine most common, so you can quickly see which ones apply to single-use plastic.
Registration in the Danish producer register
Register in the Danish producer register (Producentregistret, at DPA) per product category no later than 14 days before making products available on the market.
PRO required
Voluntary. If a PRO does not meet the obligations, you have to.
Relief for smaller companies
No de minimis threshold. The obligation applies from the first time you make products available on the market.
Eco-modulation
The fee is not modulated on environmental grounds, only by product category and volume.
Ongoing reporting to the PRO
Report volumes every quarter.
Annual statement to DPA
No annual statement. Single-use plastic is reported quarterly.
Financial guarantee
No general requirement. A guarantee only if you do not pay the fee on time.
Collection and treatment
You do not collect yourselves. You pay a clean-up fee instead.
Self-monitoring
Carry out self-monitoring that fees and reporting are correct.

Single-use plastic (SUP) is plastic products made to be used once and then thrown away. The rules apply to a set of specific product types.

Are you the producer?

You sell to-go products
Cups, cutlery, beakers and boxes made of single-use plastic.
Own brand
You have the products made and sell them under your own name.
Imports from abroad
You bring single-use plastic products into Denmark.
Online shop and distance selling
You ship single-use plastic to Danish consumers, including from abroad.

Single-use plastic stands apart. You report quarterly instead of filing an annual statement, and you pay a clean-up fee rather than collecting the waste yourselves.

You have no duty to collect or recycle yourselves. Instead you pay a fee that covers municipal and state clean-up.
