What you must comply with for Batteries
Producer responsibility covers many different obligations. We have gathered the nine most common, so you can quickly see which ones apply to batteries.
Registration in the Danish producer register
Register in the Danish producer register (Producentregistret, at DPA) before you make batteries available on the market.
PRO required
Required for portable batteries and batteries for light means of transport. The rest you can meet yourselves.
Relief for smaller companies
No de minimis threshold. Everyone who makes batteries available on the market is a producer.
Eco-modulation
The contribution is modulated according to design, for example recycled content and rechargeability.
Ongoing reporting to the PRO
Report volumes to your PRO every quarter.
Annual statement to DPA
Report the year's volumes to DPA by 30 June at the latest.
Financial guarantee
A guarantee covering 3 months of treatment. Your PRO provides it for you.
Collection and treatment
If you choose individual compliance, you set up take-back and treatment yourselves.
Self-monitoring
Carry out self-monitoring of financing and data quality at least once a year.
More than loose batteries
A battery is any source of electrical energy created by a chemical reaction. That covers both loose batteries and those built into a product, such as the cordless drill, the wireless keyboard or the smoke alarm.
So you are also a producer of batteries even if what you sell is an electronics product. If there is a battery in it, it counts. The rules split batteries into five categories, from portable to electric vehicles.

Are you the producer?
You are the producer the first time you place batteries on the Danish market. Here are four typical examples, but reality holds many more.
You sell batteries
Loose batteries, power banks and button cells for the Danish market.
Battery in the product
Your product has a built-in battery, such as tools, electronics or toys.
Imports from abroad
You bring batteries or battery-powered goods into Denmark.
Online shop and distance selling
You ship battery-powered goods to Danish consumers, including from abroad.
Recognise even one? Then you are the producer.
There is no de minimis threshold for batteries. Whatever the volume, the responsibility is yours from the first battery you make available on the market.
Quarterly reporting and an annual statement
For batteries you report every quarter to the PRO, and there is an annual statement to DPA. There are no volume thresholds to keep an eye on.
The financial guarantee is renewed every year, and your PRO provides it for you. You supply the volumes, we keep the deadlines.
